Linton Kwesi Johnson

Linton Kwesi Johnson (alias LKJ) est un Dub poet (poète Dub) britannique et musicien de reggae né le 24 août 1952 à Chapelton en Jamaïque. Kwesi est une transcription de "Crazy", fou en Anglais, qui se prononce Kwesi en créole jamaïcain.

Funkdoobiest (Los Angeles)

Formé en 1991, Funkdoobiest est pris dès le début sous la coupe de DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill). Ce groupe de Hip Hop latino a sorti en 1993 son premier album "Which Doobie U B?". Trois singles, dont "Bow Wow Wow", ont permis à cet album d'être disque d'or. Avec "Brother Doobie" produit en 1995, le groupe n'a pas pu réitérer le succès initial de leur premier disque. Trois ans plus tard, cette formation, réduit à deux membres, a perdu le soutien de Muggs. Cependant ces musiciens ont néanmoins sorti un troisième opus, "The Troubleshooters", avec leur single à succès "Papi Chulo"

Scarface-(Houston Texas)

Brad Jordan a.k.a. Scarface est né en 1970 à Houston (Texas) dans le quartier de South Acres. Son enfance fut difficile, il vécut chez ses grands parents parce qu'il s'était fait viré très de chez lui par sa mère très jeune. C'est là-bas qu'il commença à dealer. A 16 ans, il enregistra son premier single "Big Time" sous le nom Akshun (Action). Le manager James Smith lui proposa, trois ans plus tard d'intégrer le groupe Geto Boys. Il accepta le deal et il signa, la même année, en solo, sur le label Rap A Lot Records. Son premier album solo "Mr. Scarface Is Back" sort en 1991 avec, comme thème principal, le ghetto. Il dira "Je suis originaire de la rue, je suis toujours resté vrai ! C’est ce dont je parle dans ma musique. Je raconte ce qui se passe tous les jours dans la rue et dans les ghettos".

Black Uhuru

Le groupe est formé en 1974 par Euvin "Don Carlos" Spencer, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis et Derrick "Duckie" Simpson. Euvin et Rudolph quittent prématurément le groupe, l'un pour entamer une carrière solo et l'autre pour aller chanter dans un autre groupe The Wailing Souls. Arrivent alors Michael Rose, Errol Nelson et le fameux duo Sly Dunbar et Robbie Shakespeare. Le groupe, sous le nom (provisoire) de Black Sounds Uhro, enregistre alors Love Crisis (1977), le réel point de départ de leur carrière.

Mais leur notoriété arrivera réellement lors du recrutement de Sandra "Puma" Jones qui vient remplacer Errol pour épauler Michael aux harmonies.
